Getting your Staff Role Account Credentials
Getting a new IllumiDesk account with the
staff role is the first step to getting IllumiDesk setup with your LMS.
New IllumiDesk accounts with the staff role are created by an IllumiDesk Team member. Once you have access to this account, you can then create the OAuth2 application and integrate IllumiDesk with your LMS.
Additional accounts are created within IllumiDesk on behalf of the
OAuth2 application, since it has the
IllumiDesk authenticates to the LMS using OAuth2 credentials. OAuth2 is the same standard that powers the ubiquitous
Sign in with <insert social auth button here> . OAuth2 credentials, which consist of a
Client ID and
Client Secret , are associated to a specific IllumiDesk user with the
staff user has permissions to create other accounts within the IllumiDesk system, similar to an
admin account but with permissions limited only to create other user accounts. After the IllumiDesk application has been added to the LMS teachers, teachers assistants, and students can then spawn their own workspaces without having to create an account directly within IllumiDesk.
The Account Creation Worklow
An IllumiDesk team member receives a new account request and creates one with
staffprivileges within the IllumiDesk system.
The IllumiDesk team member sends the account credentials to the new user.
The user then logs into IllumiDesk to create their own unique OAuth2 application and then get the associated
Profile --> Settings --> OAuth2.
The staff user adds the IllumIDesk
Appto the LMS course(s).
Students, teachers assistants, and teachers that then interact with the IllumiDesk App from within the LMS have IllumiDesk accounts created on the fly.
Note: The last point above means that additional users have no need to request account credentials directly from IllumiDesk.
