This document describes the general steps to register for a course hosted with the edX LMS and to launch IllumiDesk from within the course using the LTI 1.1 standard.
There are two courses available with different privacy settings:
Introduction to Computer Science: email is “public” and sent to the IllumiDesk external tool.
Introduction to Data Science: email is not sent to IllumiDesk and thus uses the LTI “user_id” field for the username.
Register with edX Demo Environment
Access the edX demo environment at https://illumidesk.tahoe.appsembler.com/ and click on the Register button:
Once you have submitted the registration form, you should receive an email from “email@example.com” to confirm your email address. Click on the link provided in the email address to confirm your registration.
Once you have logged in, click on Find Courses:
Register for one of the two courses by clicking on the course title:
Once you have accessed the course view, click on “Enroll in <Course Title>”:
After you have enrolled for the course, you will see the “View Course” option. Click on this button:
Launch the IllumiDesk Application
Users, as enrolled students, have access to the course content. Click on “Expand All” to see all units and the IllumIDesk launcher:
Click on the IllumIDesk button to launch the Jupyter Notebook in a new browser window.
